In the early evening of January 14, 2015, a sense of normalcy was shattered on the 6500 block of Lansdowne Street in Philadelphia. It was there, at approximately 6:00 p.m., that 20-year-old Aaron Rodgers, a Black male, was found lying in the street with a gunshot wound to his face. Philadelphia Police officers responded to the scene and rushed him to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in critical condition.
Despite the efforts of the medical staff, Aaron succumbed to his injuries the following day, on January 15, 2015.
Aaron, a resident of the 900 block of North 64th Street, became another victim of the gun violence that plagued the city. His death was particularly tragic as it echoed a previous family heartbreak; his younger brother, Tremaine, had been murdered in 2013 while they were playing basketball just a block away from where Aaron was shot. Friends and family described Aaron as being deeply affected by his brother's death, stating he never truly recovered from the loss.
The investigation into Aaron Rodgers' murder remains open, yet no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The case is an unsolved homicide, leaving a void in the lives of his loved ones and a community searching for answers and justice. The Philadelphia Police Department continues to urge anyone with information to come forward, hoping a tip could be the key to solving this tragic case.
