In the summer of 2015, the life of a Pittsburgh teenager was cut short in a fatal shooting. Jay Wilder-Rice, a 17-year-old Black male from the city's North Side, was found lying in the street by a police officer on July 20, 2015. The discovery was made near the intersection of Minott and Sorrento Streets in the Marshall-Shadeland neighborhood.
Wilder-Rice had sustained gunshot wounds and was transported to Allegheny General Hospital for medical attention.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
In the months that followed the shooting, the investigation into Jay Wilder-Rice's death remained active. However, as of early 2016, no arrests had been made in connection with the homicide, and authorities had not publicly identified any suspects. The case was still considered an ongoing investigation by law enforcement.
