On August 7, 2016, Robert Ostiguin, a 39-year-old resident of Philadelphia, was fatally shot during an incident tied to street racing in Southwest Philadelphia. Ostiguin was at a BP gas station located on the 6600 block of East Essington Avenue when the shooting occurred. At around 1:49 a.m., shots rang out during a street race, and he was struck multiple times, ultimately succumbing to his injuries on the scene. Witnesses described a chaotic environment, with more than 20 gunshots being fired.
