On August 7, 2016, Robert Ostiguin, a 39-year-old resident of Philadelphia, was fatally shot during an incident tied to street racing in Southwest Philadelphia. Ostiguin was at a BP gas station located on the 6600 block of East Essington Avenue when the shooting occurred. At around 1:49 a.m., shots rang out during a street race, and he was struck multiple times, ultimately succumbing to his injuries on the scene. Witnesses described a chaotic environment, with more than 20 gunshots being fired.
The gunmen were reported to be two Black males in a gold Honda Civic who quickly fled the scene after the shooting.
Ostiguin, also known by the nickname "Mexican Rob," was leaning against his motorcycle when he was attacked. The video of the incident, which was captured by a bystander, shows the moment when the gunshots began, causing spectators to flee for cover. Despite the presence of multiple witnesses, the case remains unsolved, and the police are still seeking any information that could help identify the shooters. Authorities have asked anyone with information to contact the Philadelphia Police Department in hopes of finding those responsible for his death.
