On the night of August 27, 2016, 25-year-old Black male Nashawn Jones was fatally shot in the chest on the 1700 block of North Newkirk Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Philadelphia Police responded to the scene at approximately 9:24 p.m. and transported Nashawn to Temple University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead that night. A second victim, a 45-year-old Black male, also sustained a gunshot wound to the chest and was admitted to Hahnemann University Hospital in critical condition.
