On April 23, 1969, 22-year-old Janet Lynn Shanahan was found strangled to death in Eugene, Oregon. Her body was discovered in the trunk of her 1951 Plymouth sedan on Cross Street, in what was then an industrial area of the city. Janet, a student at the University of Oregon, had been reported missing by her husband, Christopher Shanahan, after she failed to return home from a family birthday party on April 21. Christopher had not attended the party with her, citing illness.
