In the early hours of a Saturday morning, on July 10, 1999, Harold Rogers was working as a security guard at Doc's Tavern in Portland, Oregon. At approximately 1:00 a.m., an altercation occurred involving three male patrons, which resulted in security staff, including Rogers, telling them to leave the establishment located at 3000 SE Powell Blvd. The initial confrontation seemed to have ended as the three men departed from the tavern.
