On the evening of September 28, 2000, Sharveil Moorer, a 26-year-old African-American man, made a quick stop at the Going Street Market in Portland, Oregon. He left around 10:50 p.m. having purchased a pack of cigarettes. Shortly after 11:00 p.m., he arrived at his father's home on the 4600 block of North Vancouver Avenue with devastating news.
