Do you know who killed Thompson Tony Ly in 2005? In the early morning hours of May 15, 2005, a 41-year-old Asian male named Thompson Tony Ly was shot and killed in Portland, Oregon. The incident occurred at approximately 1:19 a.m. near the intersection of Southwest Yamhill Street between Southwest 2nd and Southwest 3rd Avenue. When police officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Ly had sustained a fatal gunshot wound.
Eyewitnesses at the scene reported seeing a gold Honda Accord with spinner-type wheels leaving the area shortly
after the shooting. The vehicle was reportedly occupied by as many as five African-American males, all believed to be in their 20s. According to witness statements, one of the passengers, who was sitting in the back seat on the driver's side, was seen firing a gun out of the window six to seven times. A description of this individual was provided to the police, indicating he was wearing black sweatpants, a red and white baseball hat, and white shoes.
Despite the witness accounts and the description of the alleged shooter and vehicle, no arrests have been made in the case. The death of Thompson Ly remains an unsolved homicide and is now considered a cold case. The Portland Police Bureau's Cold Case Homicide Unit continues to seek information from the public that might lead to the identification and arrest of the suspect or suspects involved in his death. Authorities have encouraged anyone with information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to come forward to help bring closure to Ly's family and friends. A cash reward has been offered for information that leads to an arrest in this unsolved crime.
