On the early morning of July 26, 1973, Veda Woodson, a 38-year-old mother of four, was heading home to Sperry, Oklahoma, after her janitorial shift at the First National Bank in Tulsa. It is believed she was making a stop to buy a soft drink for her sick son. However, she never made it home. Her 1958 Chevrolet was discovered by Sperry Police at approximately 2:00 AM at 8800 N.

Her family grew worried when she didn't return. A search ensued, and her body was later found in a nearby field. An investigation revealed that Woodson had been abducted, sexually assaulted, and strangled. For decades, her case remained unsolved, a painful cold case for her family and the Tulsa community. Investigators had gathered evidence from the scene, but the technology at the time was not advanced enough to identify a suspect.
Decades later, a breakthrough emerged in the 45-year-old case. In 2018, the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office's Cold Case Task Force announced that DNA evidence had linked a suspect to the murder. The DNA pointed to Stanley Clabough, who was 78 years old at the time of the announcement and had been a person of interest early in the original investigation. Authorities stated they believe Clabough had shared details about the murder with people within his inner circle and expressed their belief that he was in the Tulsa area.
