Do you know who murdered Denise? On a Wednesday evening in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the life of 35-year-old Denise Yvette Brown was tragically cut short. On November 21, 2001, at approximately 8:55 p.m., a barrage of bullets was fired into a residence located at 2630 N. Rockford. The house was known in the area as a place associated with drug activity.
Inside the home with four other individuals, Denise was struck in the head by the gunfire and died instantly at the scene.
Another person in the house sustained injuries but ultimately survived the violent attack. The shooting was part of a drive-by, a grim and sudden intrusion of violence into the night. Investigators learned that just five minutes prior to the fatal shooting, another drive-by incident had occurred only blocks away in the 2600 block of N. Quincy Avenue.
In the aftermath of the shooting, a suspect named Terrell Mayfield was identified and taken into custody. He was subsequently charged with second-degree murder in connection with Denise Brown's death. However, the charges against Mayfield were ultimately dropped in early 2002. Since that time, the case has grown cold, leaving the investigation into the murder of Denise Yvette Brown unresolved. The Tulsa Police Department continues to list her case as a cold case and encourages anyone with information to come forward.
