Mario Valentino Brooks, known by his nickname "Tino," was murdered on May 8, 1994, at the Family Barbecue Social Club located near Tatums, Oklahoma. The incident occurred on Mother's Day, and Tino, aged 19, was from Duncan, Oklahoma. He attended the club with his older brother, Corey. During that night, a fight broke out among patrons of the club, and it escalated to violence when someone pulled out a gun and began shooting.
