McFarland, a 26-year-old male, was shot approximately 25 feet from where the group had assembled. McFarland later succumbed to his injuries at San Francisco General Hospital. Security officers patrolling the area reported hearing multiple gunshots and stopped several individuals, but no arrests were made.
Investigators described the suspected shooter in McFarland’s case as an African American male, approximately 5-foot-6, wearing a watch cap, black sweatshirt, black pants, and black shoes. Security officers saw the suspect fleeing the scene but were unable to apprehend him. Authorities have not linked McFarland’s killing to gang activity, though reports suggest he may have been involved in a dispute before the shooting.
Despite the passage of time, Marcus Bibbs’ murder remains unsolved, leaving his family and community without closure. His death, followed by the tragic events at his memorial, underscores the persistent issue of gun violence in the area.
