On a spring evening in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the life of eighteen-year-old Demario Dejuan Sanders was tragically cut short. On April 1, 2000, the young man was simply driving his vehicle, a bystander in a conflict that was not his own. As he traveled eastbound at the intersection of East 46th Street North and North Boston Avenue, he was caught in the crossfire of a gunfight that erupted between two other individuals. A stray bullet from their exchange struck Sanders, inflicting a fatal wound.
The aftermath of the shooting left a void in the community and a case that would grow cold over the years. The Tulsa Police Department investigated the homicide, but the two individuals responsible for the gunfire that ended Sanders's life were never publicly identified.
