Darrell Gatewood was a 19-year-old African-American male from Oklahoma City whose life ended on July 20, 2007, in the chaos of an attempted home invasion. That day, according to later case summaries, he was part of a group that tried to force its way into a residence in the city. What began as an effort to break into the home quickly escalated into a violent confrontation, and at some point during that struggle he was shot, leaving him gravely wounded at the scene.
