In the spring of 2008, a dispute in Oklahoma City ended in the death of 43-year-old John Dawkins. The African-American man was involved in an altercation on April 13th of that year, a confrontation that would ultimately cost him his life. During the incident, Dawkins armed himself with a modified sawed-off shotgun, an act he would later claim was in self-defense.
