In the autumn of 2010, the life of 32-year-old Damesha Lee Hunter, a mother of four, was tragically cut short in her Tulsa, Oklahoma home. On the morning of October 14th, she was on a phone call with her husband, Laroye Hunter III, when she mentioned someone was at the door. After she set the phone down to answer it, she never returned to the conversation. Later that morning, her husband would report finding her shot to death inside their residence.
There were no signs of a forced entry.
The immediate investigation into Damesha's death brought a troubled marital history to light. At the time of the shooting, there was an active protective order Damesha had taken out against her husband due to domestic violence. This was not the first time she had sought legal protection from him. In the days following her death, Laroye Hunter III was taken into custody, but not for her murder. Instead, he was arrested for violating the protective order. While he was considered a person of interest in his wife's death, no charges have ever been filed against him in connection with it.
Adding another layer to the investigation was the discovery of a letter Damesha had received about a month before her murder. The letter was from a woman identified only as 'KeKe,' who claimed to have been in a two-year affair with Laroye Hunter and was pregnant with his child. Authorities have never been able to identify or locate this individual.
In the years since Damesha Lee Hunter's death, her case has grown cold. Despite the initial focus on her husband and the potential lead of the mysterious letter, her murder remains unsolved. The Tulsa Police Department continues to list her case among its unsolved homicides, leaving her family without answers and a killer still at large.
