The last known contact with Martin was a phone call with his son on June 27th. The following day, after being unable to reach him and noticing his answering machine was off, his son went to his father's home to check on him. He found Martin's car in the driveway, but his father was nowhere to be found.
A sense of unease settled in as he discovered his father's medications left behind and what appeared to be blood inside the vehicle. This discovery prompted his son to report him missing.
Investigators looking into his disappearance found that Martin's Pikepass had been used on June 27th and again in the early hours of June 28th at the Coweta Entry Plaza, adding a layer of mystery to his movements around the time he went missing. For two and a half years, the case remained a frustrating puzzle for both his family and law enforcement. The passage of time offered no new leads, and the question of what happened to Thomas Martin lingered unanswered.
A grim discovery in January 2013 finally brought a tragic end to the search. Two hikers, exploring near the Arkansas River, stumbled upon skeletal remains. The location was approximately six blocks from Martin's home. The remains were later identified as those of Thomas Martin. An autopsy revealed a brutal end to his life; he had sustained a gunshot wound to the head.
