In the summer of 2015, a beloved member of the Tulsa, Oklahoma community, 62-year-old James H. Cooper, tragically lost his life in what has been described as a senseless act of violence. On the evening of July 23rd, Cooper, a Black male, had just finished a game of tennis with friends, a regular pastime for the athletic and community-minded man. As he made his way through the parking lot, an unknown assailant or assailants fatally shot him.
The news of his murder sent shockwaves through
the city, where Cooper was known not only for his athletic prowess from a young age but also for his successful career and dedication to mentoring young athletes. A graduate of Lincoln University and the University of Tulsa, he had built a life in Tulsa, raising a family and becoming a respected figure. The community mourned the loss of a man remembered for his kindness and his commitment to helping others.
Despite the initial investigation and pleas from his family for anyone with information to come forward, the case has grown cold over the years. Law enforcement has yet to publicly identify any suspects in the murder of James H. Cooper. No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, leaving his family and community still searching for answers and justice for a life taken too soon. The case remains an open and unsolved homicide.
