On August 28, 2015, 20-year-old Thomas Reed was fatally shot in Tulsa, Oklahoma, during an altercation that escalated into violence. The incident occurred in the early hours at a location near downtown Tulsa. Rodrick Whiteside was later arrested in connection with the shooting after being tracked to Chicago. In 2016, Whiteside pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of second-degree murder and was sentenced to 35 years in prison.
