On February 16, 1983, 62-year-old Jack Dentner was found dead inside his apartment at Colonial East Apartments on East Broad Street in Whitehall, Ohio. Dentner had been bound and stabbed to death, and his apartment had been ransacked, indicating a robbery. Items taken from his home included a Curtis Mathis stereo component system.
