Yasir Diriye Kahin was a 20-year-old man from Willmar, Minnesota. Following his death, Janazah, or funeral services, were held at The Islamic Society of Willmar, and he was laid to rest in the Islamic Burial Section of Fairview Cemetery.

On the evening of September 21, 2026, a triple shooting shattered the peace at a local park. Willmar police officers responded to a call reporting gunshots at approximately 8:00 p.m. in the area of Rau Park, located on Foot Lake. When they arrived, they found multiple victims.

Yasir Diriye Kahin and another Willmar resident, 19-year-old Alexis Antonio Quintanilla Deras, were both fatally wounded. A third victim, 19-year-old Guled Fahran Abdi, was found critically injured. Mr. Abdi, a former Willmar resident who was living in Bloomington, was airlifted to a hospital in St. Cloud for treatment.

The Willmar Police Department and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension launched an investigation into the shooting. Authorities described the event as an isolated incident and stated that they did not believe there was an ongoing threat to the public. In a statement, the police department expressed its concern and disappointment over the "senseless act of gun violence." A candlelight vigil for Alexis Antonio Quintanilla Deras was later held at the Rau Park Fishing Pier, the site of the shooting.

No suspects have been publicly identified, and a motive for the shooting has not been announced. Detectives are working to determine the circumstances that led to the violence, the role each person played, and whether anyone else was involved. As of September 2026, the case remains unsolved. Investigators are asking anyone with information, no matter how minor it may seem, to contact Detective Sergeant Chad Nelson at 320-235-3100.
