Summary based on 2 sources
Isaias Castaneda was 30 years old when he died on Wednesday, February 1, 2006, in South Los Angeles. According to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner records summarized by the Los Angeles Times, his death followed a stabbing. His death was ruled a homicide, and it is listed as a Los Angeles Police Department 77th Street Division case.

The Los Angeles Times Homicide Report described him as "a 30-year-old Latino male" who "died Wednesday, Feb. 1, after being stabbed." That entry gave no address or neighborhood.

The Los Angeles Police Department released its own short account the same day, under the headline "Man Found Shot To Death In Parking Lot." It said that "A 30-year-old Los Angeles man was found in the rear parking lot of a bar in South Los Angeles." According to the release, "In the early morning hours of Wednesday, February 1, 2006, 77th Area patrol officers responded to the rear parking lot of 'Charlito's Bar', located in the 7200 block of South Broadway. The officers found the victim, Isaias Castaneda, with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene."

The two public accounts do not agree on how he died. The coroner-based Times entry lists the cause as a stabbing, while the police release describes gunshot wounds. The records available for this story do not explain the difference, and it is possible that one of the early reports was mistaken or that he suffered more than one kind of wound.

The police release added that "The motive for this incident is unknown and there is no description of the suspect(s)." No later update from the department could be found.

Beyond those few lines, almost nothing about Isaias Castaneda has been made public. No obituary, memorial page or family fundraiser could be found that clearly belongs to him, and no follow-up news story appears to have been written. Searches for his name turn up other men who share it, including a man in Illinois and a Montebello resident who died in 2025, none of whom are connected to this death. He surely had family and friends who remember him, but none of their words have entered the public record.

Broadway is one of the long north-south corridors of South Los Angeles, lined with small businesses, churches, auto shops, bars and modest homes and apartment buildings. The 77th Street area is one of the busiest police divisions in the city. A bar parking lot in the early morning hours is a place where patrons, staff or neighbors may have seen people coming and going, or heard an argument before the attack.

Los Angeles still recorded roughly 480 to 520 homicides a year in the mid-2000s, and many of those killings were never solved.

No arrest, criminal charge or court case connected to the death of Isaias Castaneda could be found in news archives or public records. More than 19 years later, there is no public sign that anyone has been held responsible. Anyone who was at or near Charlito's Bar on South Broadway in the early morning of February 1, 2006, or who knew Isaias Castaneda, may hold information that could help. The police release at the time asked tipsters to call 77th Street Homicide detectives at 213-485-1385. Even a small detail, such as a name overheard, a vehicle seen nearby or a conversation remembered, can help detectives move a case forward. Anyone with information can call the Los Angeles Police Department at 877-527-3247 (877-LAPD-24-7), or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS (8477).
