On April 8, 1992, 31-year-old John Carl Marthers was fatally shot during an attempted robbery in Charlotte, North Carolina. Marthers was in a borrowed vehicle on Echodale Drive when he was approached by a dark vehicle occupied by several individuals. They demanded money, shot him, and left him critically injured.
