The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner ruled his death a homicide; the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Homicide Bureau was listed as the investigating agency.

Mobley was 68 at the time of his death. Public records about his life, family or occupation are limited in the sources located; media reporting and coroner records cited in contemporaneous coverage focus on the circumstances of his death and the location where his body was discovered. The homicide was recorded in regional homicide logs and brief police-coroner summaries that were published soon after the death.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Homicide Bureau handled the investigation. I did not find any public record of an arrest, charge, conviction or police announcement identifying a perpetrator in this case. No reward postings, family appeals, or later press releases that closed the case were located in the sources reviewed.
