On May 19, 2007, Willie Vanderick Ashmore, a 25-year-old resident of Charlotte, North Carolina, was found dead in Elmwood Cemetery. Ashmore had been reported missing prior to the discovery of his body, which was found lying in the grass. He had suffered a fatal gunshot wound, and his death was officially ruled a homicide.
