In the early morning hours of September 7, 2026, Claiborne County Deputy Sheriff Terrian Bailey, 45, was shot and killed while responding to a disturbance call. The incident occurred near a convenience store off Highway 18 in the vicinity of Hermanville, Mississippi, where a large crowd had gathered after a local festival. While attempting to disperse the crowd, shots were fired, striking both Deputy Bailey and a female bystander. Both were transported to a nearby hospital, where Deputy Bailey succumbed to his injuries later that morning. The civilian sustained non-life-threatening injuries. A six-year veteran of the Claiborne County Sheriff's Department, he was survived by his wife and four children.
A swift and intensive investigation involving multiple local, state, and federal agencies, including the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and the FBI, led to the identification of numerous individuals connected to the shooting. Within days, a significant law enforcement operation resulted in the arrests of 11 suspects.
