On a Monday afternoon in Dayton, Ohio, the life of 34-year-old Braden Junkins was tragically cut short. On September 21, 2026, Junkins was found suffering from a gunshot wound on Huffman Avenue. He was quickly transported to a local hospital, but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. The initial 911 call reported a gunshot and two individuals fleeing the scene, leaving one person on the ground. This call prompted a swift police response that would soon lead investigators to a nearby residence and two suspects.
The investigation quickly zeroed in on a house on Centre Street, not far from the scene of the shooting. Inside, police located and arrested 32-year-old Laterell Louis Turner Jr. and 37-year-old Destanie Deshawn McComb in connection with the fatal shooting. Turner faced serious charges, including two counts of murder, two counts of felonious assault, and one count of tampering with evidence. McComb was charged with tampering with evidence and two counts of obstructing justice. Both were booked into the Montgomery County Jail as the investigation into Junkins' death continued to unfold.

Following the incident, Turner stated that he gave the handgun used in the shooting to his girlfriend, McComb. Authorities alleged that McComb then attempted to hinder the investigation by hiding the firearm in a bathroom and providing false information to the police.
