On a tragic day in Winfield, Kansas, the life of 3-year-old Kelly M. Magee-Williams was cut short in a devastating act of violence. On the morning of August 11, 2026, events unfolded that would leave a community in shock and mourning. The day began with a chilling 911 call from Ronald Williams Sr., 53, who informed the dispatcher that he had killed his family and intended to take his own life.
When law enforcement arrived at the residence in the 400 block of West Ninth Avenue, they heard a single gunshot, prompting them to establish a perimeter.
After a standoff, officers entered the home at approximately 10:57 a.m. to a horrific scene. Inside, they discovered the bodies of six individuals, all deceased from gunshot wounds. The victims were identified as Kelly L. George, 44, and her four children: Carol A. Williams, 9; Ronald H. Williams Jr., 7; Sarah K. Williams, 5; and young Kelly M. Magee-Williams. The suspect, Ronald Williams Sr., was also found deceased from what was determined to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The investigation, led by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation and the Winfield Police Department, concluded that Williams Sr. was responsible for the five homicides.
Further investigation revealed a history of concerning behavior from Ronald Williams Sr., including previous convictions for various crimes and recent reports of erratic and aggressive behavior. Evidence suggested that Williams and Kelly L. George may have had a premeditated plan, as documentation showed George had purchased a revolver in February of 2025, the same type of firearm found at the scene. The tragic event was ruled a murder-suicide, and with the sole suspect deceased, the case was closed without any arrests or trials. The community of Winfield was left to grapple with the immense loss of four young children and their mother, a heartbreaking event that left a lasting scar on the small Kansas town.
