In the quiet community of Sardis, Georgia, the life of 51-year-old Rebecca Lynn Oglesby was tragically cut short on Sunday, August 9, 2026. A loving mother and grandmother, she was known for her enjoyment of cooking. Born in Augusta to the late Paulette and William Robert Bolton, Rebecca had made her home in Sardis. Her life, however, would become intertwined with a horrifying act of violence that would claim three other lives and leave the small town in a state of shock.
The tragic events unfolded at two separate locations, one of which was a residence on Twin Lakes Drive where Oglesby was found.
Rebecca was a victim of a quadruple homicide perpetrated by Adolphus Christopher Morris. Also killed in the rampage were Walter "Meat" Bunch, who was Rebecca's 59-year-old boyfriend, 53-year-old Betty Fort, and 31-year-old Jessica Carroll. Another individual, Andrew Putnam, was also shot but survived his injuries. The discovery of the victims at two different crime scenes, one on Twin Lakes Road and the other on Tom Bargeron Road, painted a grim picture of Morris's deadly path through the community. The Burke County Sheriff's Office was tasked with the difficult investigation of this devastating loss of life.
The search for the suspect, Adolphus Christopher Morris, came to a decisive and violent end. Following the discovery of the victims, law enforcement officers located Morris. A police chase ensued, which concluded after deputies successfully used stop sticks to disable his vehicle near Charles Perry Avenue and Girard Avenue in Sardis. At this point, Morris fired upon the deputies, who returned fire, fatally wounding him at the scene. With the death of the sole suspect, the community was left to mourn the senseless loss of four of its members, including Rebecca Oglesby. The case, while closed with the death of the perpetrator, leaves behind a legacy of pain and sorrow for the families and friends of the victims, forever marking a dark chapter in the history of Sardis.
