In the summer of 2026, a promising young soldier's life was tragically cut short in an act of violence that also claimed the life of a fellow soldier. Chamill London, a 19-year-old U.S. Army soldier, was killed on July 25, 2026, in Lawton, Oklahoma. A graduate of Alton High School in Illinois, London had enlisted in the Army and was stationed at Fort Sill, where she worked in Air and Missile Defense.
She was reportedly excited about her future and was preparing for an upcoming deployment to Iraq.
On that fateful Saturday evening, officers from the Lawton Police Department were dispatched to the Timbers Apartments following reports of a shooting. Inside one of the apartments, they discovered the bodies of Chamill London and another soldier, 20-year-old Jabari "Bari" Roebuck. Both had sustained fatal gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene. Roebuck was also a U.S. Army soldier stationed at Fort Sill. The investigation into the double homicide quickly identified a suspect: 21-year-old Lemondre Wilson, a U.S. Marine who was London's estranged husband. Authorities indicated that Wilson had been struggling to come to terms with the couple's recent divorce, which had been finalized just weeks before the shooting.
After the shooting, Lemondre Wilson fled the scene, sparking a search by law enforcement. A short time later, his vehicle was located along Interstate 35 near Perry, Oklahoma. Inside the vehicle, authorities found Wilson deceased from what was determined to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. With the suspect also dead, the case concluded as a murder-suicide, leaving two families and a military community to mourn the senseless loss of two young lives. No arrests were made, and there were no subsequent convictions or sentences, as the perpetrator took his own life. The tragic event cut short the lives of two dedicated soldiers who were at the beginning of their careers, leaving behind a narrative of domestic turmoil that ended in the worst possible way.
