In the late morning of Tuesday, August 4, 2026, the city of Novato, California, was shaken by a fatal shooting in the Ignacio neighborhood. The victim was identified as 31-year-old Travis Lee Wine. The incident occurred just after 10 a.m. outside an apartment complex located on the 400 block of Alameda del Prado, near the intersection with Calle Arboleda. Multiple 911 calls reported the sound of gunfire, and upon arrival, police officers discovered Wine suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. Paramedics promptly transported him to a local hospital, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

Authorities quickly described the shooting as a targeted attack and stated their belief that it was gang-related. Investigators have indicated that Wine and his assailant knew each other. Following the shooting, the suspect fled the scene on foot, heading toward Calle Arboleda, which triggered an extensive search operation. The Novato Police Department, aided by the Marin County Sheriff's Office, which deployed a drone, a California Highway Patrol aircraft, and a K-9 unit from the Vallejo Police Department, scoured the area for the gunman. A shelter-in-place order was issued for residents on Calle Arboleda and Alameda del Prado while law enforcement conducted their search. The order was lifted later that afternoon, around 2:30 p.m.

Despite the large-scale manhunt, the suspect has not been apprehended and remains at large. The Novato Police Department has released a description of the suspect, identifying him as a Hispanic male, approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall. At the time of the incident, he was wearing dark pants, a gray hooded sweatshirt, and a black ski mask. This tragic event marks the first homicide in Novato in 2026. The investigation into the death of Travis Lee Wine is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward. The official cause and manner of death are pending the conclusion of the investigation by the Marin County Sheriff's Office Coroner Division.
