Kathie Sue Pierce was a 24-year-old woman whose life ended violently inside her home in the small Crawford County community of Musella, Georgia, on August 23, 1974. Pierce was at home with her three-year-old son when a stranger forced his way inside. The intruder was later identified as Paul John Knowles, a fugitive whose movements across the country during the summer and fall of 1974 left investigators confronting a rapidly growing trail of murders, robberies, kidnappings and stolen vehicles.
