In the late afternoon of June 21, 2026, a report of an assault in unincorporated Modesto, California, led Stanislaus County Sheriff's deputies to a grim discovery. Near the intersection of River and Bystrum roads, they found 46-year-old Jeffrey Maylor suffering from at least one gunshot wound. A passerby had attempted to render aid and perform CPR, but Maylor was pronounced dead at the scene. The Stanislaus County Coroner's Office later officially identified the victim as the Modesto resident.
