On the evening of June 28, 2026, in Sonora, California, the life of 60-year-old Eric Brandon Udall was tragically cut short. In the serene setting of a residence on Lime Kiln Road, a violent altercation erupted, culminating in a fatal shooting. When Tuolumne County Sheriff's deputies responded to the scene at approximately 7:15 p.m., they found Udall with a gunshot wound.
Despite the immediate life-saving measures administered by the deputies and subsequent emergency medical personnel, Udall succumbed to his injuries after being transported to Adventist Health Sonora.
The ensuing investigation quickly identified a suspect: 55-year-old Timothy Allen Boling. Authorities determined that a physical fight between Udall and Boling had escalated, leading to the deadly shooting. Boling, a convicted felon who was prohibited from possessing firearms and was on post-release community supervision, fled the scene before law enforcement arrived. The Sheriff's Office launched an intensive search, working through the night to follow up on leads. The next morning, they released photos of Boling and his white 2002 Toyota Tundra, seeking the public's assistance in locating him.
The community's response was swift and crucial. Several people reported seeing Boling in the Columbia State Historic Park area. As deputies converged on the location, a California State Parks Law Enforcement Officer who had also been alerted, located Boling and held him at gunpoint. Sheriff's deputies arrived shortly after and took Boling into custody without any further incident. He was arrested and booked into the Tuolumne County Jail on a charge of murder. The Tuolumne County District Attorney's Office subsequently charged Boling with murder, including an enhancement for the personal discharge of a firearm causing death, as well as possession of a firearm and ammunition by a felon. It was also revealed that Boling had three prior serious or violent felony convictions and was out on bail for a pending felony case at the time of the alleged murder. At his arraignment, he was ordered to be held without bail. The case is now pending further legal proceedings.
