In the early morning hours of June 30, 2026, Charles Carr, a 30-year-old man from Cincinnati, was asleep in a second-floor room of an Extended Stay Hotel in Springdale, Ohio. Also in the room were his girlfriend, Ariana Reynolds, and their one-year-old son, Xavier. The quiet of the pre-dawn hours was shattered when multiple gunshots were fired from an exterior balcony into their hotel room window, striking Carr in the mid-back.
