In what should have been the safety of her own home, 33-year-old Shalimar Green and her 11-year-old daughter, Aliv'eyah Chandler, were found dead on the evening of May 27, 2026, in Columbus, Ohio. Concerned relatives, unable to reach Shalimar, had requested a welfare check. Before police could arrive at the Chatsworth Way residence, a family member made the tragic discovery of Shalimar and Aliv'eyah, who had sustained both gunshot and stab wounds.
Medics were called to the scene but could only pronounce the mother and daughter dead. The incident stemmed from an ongoing domestic dispute with Shalimar's husband, 35-year-old Derrick Green, with whom she was in the process of ending their marriage. The day before their deaths, Shalimar had reportedly confronted her husband after finding him sleeping on the couch with a knife.
The investigation quickly identified Derrick Green as the primary suspect. Evidence at the scene included a bloody knife, blood-soaked clothing, and spent gun cartridges. The caliber of the cartridges found in the home matched ammunition that was visible inside Derrick Green's car, which he had reportedly been sleeping in. After leaving the home before law enforcement arrived, Green was located and arrested by SWAT officers later that night without incident. He was found inside Shalimar's missing vehicle, about a half-mile from the scene of the crime.
Following his arrest, Derrick Green was charged with murder. During a court hearing, his bond was set at $5 million. Disturbing details emerged during the proceedings, with an attorney stating that Green had admitted to the killings during an interview with police. In early June, a Franklin County grand jury indicted Derrick Green on multiple counts, including three counts of aggravated murder, two counts of gross abuse of a corpse, and one count of tampering with evidence. The case has also brought to light Green's prior brushes with the law, including a previous murder charge in 2021 that was dismissed when a grand jury declined to indict him, and a 2023 strangulation charge involving Shalimar that was also dismissed. The community has been left to mourn the loss of a mother and her young child, with a growing memorial of flowers and messages of love placed outside their home. The case against Derrick Green is currently moving through the court system, representing the initial stages of a long road toward what the family and community hope will be justice for Shalimar and Aliv'eyah.
