Tyron Butler, a 34-year-old man from Portland, Oregon, died after a shooting on Thursday, June 11, 2026, in the city’s Portsmouth neighborhood. The shooting was reported at about 4:46 p.m. near North Fessenden Street and North Haven Avenue, where Portland police officers arrived and found Butler injured on a sidewalk.
Emergency medical responders took Butler by ambulance to a hospital as lifesaving efforts continued, but he did not survive.
The medical examiner later determined that he died from homicide by gunshot wound. His family was notified of his death and asked for privacy, while also allowing Portland police to release a photo of him publicly.
In the immediate aftermath, police said there was no suspect at the scene and no arrests had been made. Detectives from the Portland Police Bureau’s Homicide Unit began investigating, interviewing witnesses, collecting evidence, and working with forensic criminalists as they tried to determine who was responsible for the shooting.
The investigation moved quickly. On Friday, June 12, 2026, at about 7:35 p.m., detectives arrested 20-year-old Pharoah A. Hart-Williams of Portland in connection with Butler’s killing. The arrest was made with assistance from Portland’s Special Emergency Reaction Team and Crisis Negotiation Team.
Hart-Williams was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon. Police notified Butler’s family after the arrest, but said the case remained under investigation and continued asking anyone with information to contact detectives, referencing case number 26-169700.
