On the evening of April 16, 2026, a road rage incident in Florida escalated into a fatal shooting, claiming the life of 34-year-old Nathaniel Padgett. Padgett, a FedEx driver, was operating his truck with his girlfriend as a passenger when the confrontation began on the Florida Turnpike. The driver of the other vehicle, later identified as 24-year-old Tyler Brandon Vidro, allegedly began trying to provoke a confrontation by pulling alongside Padgett's truck, lowering his window, and making gestures.

Padgett reportedly ignored Vidro and continued on his route to the FedEx distribution center in Riviera Beach. However, Vidro followed Padgett's truck into the private parking lot of the facility. After Padgett parked and briefly went inside the building, he returned to his personal vehicle where Vidro was allegedly waiting for him. According to police reports based on surveillance footage, Vidro confronted Padgett, accusing him of hitting his car. Padgett denied the accusation and attempted to de-escalate the situation by moving his truck to another part of the parking lot, but Vidro pursued him.

The confrontation continued, with Padgett eventually stopping on a private road, exiting his truck, and picking up a cinder block. As Padgett approached Vidro's car, Vidro allegedly opened fire, shooting Padgett multiple times in the chest, abdomen, arm, and leg. In total, authorities believe Vidro fired nine shots, striking Padgett seven times. Padgett's girlfriend immediately called 911, and during the call, Padgett could be heard saying, "I'm going to die, baby." He was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Following the shooting, Tyler Vidro also contacted the authorities, claiming he acted in self-defense and had "emptied the magazine." However, investigators have stated that his actions, including tracking Padgett to a private, restricted property, are consistent with aggravated stalking, and that Florida's "Stand Your Ground" law would not apply in this case. Vidro was arrested and is being held without bond on charges of first-degree murder and aggravated stalking. A GoFundMe campaign was established by Padgett's family, who described him as a loving father to his three children. His next court date is scheduled for May 18.
