In the quiet community of Mound Bayou, Mississippi, the life of 15-year-old Alexis Walker was tragically cut short on the evening of Saturday, April 4, 2026. The teenager was fatally wounded in a shooting that also left another 15-year-old with life-threatening injuries. The incident unfolded around 9:21 p.m., when deputies from the Bolivar County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the area of Old Highway 61 and Luke Road following reports of a gunshot victim.
Upon their arrival, law enforcement discovered a black Honda Accord with its doors open, parked in the southbound lane. Inside, they found Alexis Walker, who had succumbed to her injuries. While the discovery was made on the highway, investigators later determined that the actual shooting occurred at a residence located at 202 Green Avenue, not far from the Mound Bayou Police Department. The motive behind the violent act remains under investigation.
In the days that followed the shooting, a joint effort by the Bolivar County Sheriff's Office, the Mound Bayou Police Department, and the North Side Consolidated School District Police Department led to the apprehension of two juvenile suspects. Sixteen-year-old Joei Taylor of Mound Bayou was taken into custody and has been charged with murder and three counts of aggravated assault. A second teenager, 17-year-old Travis Scott Jr., also from Mound Bayou, was arrested and charged with accessory after the fact. Both individuals are being held at the Bolivar County Regional Facility as they await their initial court appearances. The Bolivar County Sheriff's Office has extended its condolences to the family of Alexis Walker and all those affected by the tragic event.
