In the early hours of a Tuesday morning in High Point, North Carolina, a tragedy unfolded that cut short the life of 22-year-old Jonal N. Hodge. On March 17, 2026, Jonal, a Black female, was discovered in a vehicle in the parking lot of the Oaks at Silver Ridge apartment complex, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The High Point Police Department responded to a call of shots fired in the 2900 block of E. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive at approximately 3 a.m.
The first officer to arrive found Jonal and immediately began administering life-saving aid.
Despite the swift response and medical attention, Jonal was transported to a local hospital in critical condition and succumbed to her injuries shortly after arrival. Witnesses at the scene identified the shooter as Jonal's boyfriend, who had reportedly walked up to the vehicle and opened fire. The investigation into the domestic-related homicide quickly pointed to one suspect.
A few hours later, around 7 a.m., a call was made to 911 about a suspicious person entering a shed on Hendrix Street. As officers were preparing to approach the shed, a single gunshot was heard from within. Inside, they discovered the man who was identified as the suspect in Jonal's shooting, Adrin K. Rome, a 34-year-old Black male from Edenton, North Carolina. Rome was found deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
With the death of the sole suspect, the High Point Police Department confirmed that they were not seeking any other individuals in connection with Jonal Hodge's murder. The case was determined to be a murder-suicide, leaving a community to mourn the loss of a young life to domestic violence.
