A lifelong resident of Bernalillo, New Mexico, Lawrence “Lencho” Castillo, was tragically killed on the afternoon of Wednesday, February 25, 2026. The 38-year-old man was the victim of a fatal shooting that is now the subject of a homicide investigation by the Bernalillo Police Department.
Officers responded to reports of a shooting victim in the 300 block of Avenida Bernalillo, near Interstate 25, where they found Castillo.
In the initial stages of their investigation, police indicated that they believed the shooting was an isolated incident. The New Mexico State Police assisted the Bernalillo Police Department in processing the scene in the early hours of the investigation.
