In a quiet Huntington Beach neighborhood, the morning of March 3, 2026, was shattered by violence that claimed the life of 65-year-old Bari Payne. Police were summoned to a residence on Brookhurst Street around 10 a.m. following multiple reports of a domestic dispute that had escalated to the sound of gunshots.
Upon their arrival, officers were met with silence from within the home. Forcing entry, they discovered a grim scene. Bari Payne was found inside, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound, and was pronounced dead at the scene. Also present in the residence was 76-year-old Robert Cipiano Alvarez Jr., who was immediately detained by the authorities.
Following an initial investigation based on interviews and evidence collected at the home, Alvarez was arrested on suspicion of murder. He was subsequently transported to the Huntington Beach City Jail for booking. Investigators have indicated that the killing appears to be an isolated incident.
