In a residential area of Huntington Beach, a burst of gunfire shattered the Sunday afternoon peace on November 9, 2025, leaving a man with fatal injuries. The victim was later identified as 42-year-old Ryan Daniel Ennis of Anaheim. Police responded to reports of shots fired near the intersection of Ash Lane and Mandrell Drive shortly before 2:30 p.m. and discovered Ennis suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a local trauma center, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into the shooting quickly led Huntington Beach police to a suspect. Later that same evening, 28-year-old Luis Angel Mireles of Santa Ana was located and taken into custody. Mireles, a felon who was on probation at the time of the incident, was subsequently charged with the murder of Ryan Daniel Ennis. The charges also included a felony enhancement for discharging a firearm causing great bodily injury or death.
Mireles has a significant criminal history that dates back to 2016 and includes convictions for fleeing police, reckless driving, and carrying a loaded weapon in public. At the time of the shooting, he had pending cases against him for several offenses, including possession of a deadly weapon in jail and stalking. Authorities have not yet released a motive for the shooting as the investigation by the Huntington Beach Police Department's Major Crimes Unit and Special Investigations Bureau remains ongoing. Mireles was scheduled for an arraignment hearing in the days following his arrest.
