Eight-year-old Thea Jane Shelton, a young White girl, passed away on March 8, 2026, inside her home on Greenwood Drive. Thea was born on April 15, 2017, in Cookeville, Tennessee. Her life, full of potential, was tragically cut short alongside her mother, Randi Jean Hutchings.
The circumstances of their deaths were the subject of an immediate investigation by the Warren County Sheriff's Office. Deputies responded to a welfare check at the family's residence at approximately 2:10 p.m. on that Sunday afternoon. Upon entering the home, they made the grim discovery of three deceased individuals. The scene was quickly determined to be the result of a domestic-related incident.
Investigators have identified the third individual as Joseph Nicholas Shelton, Jr., Thea's father and Randi's husband. The preliminary findings from the sheriff's office suggest a murder-suicide. It is believed that Joseph Shelton, Jr. shot and killed his wife and their young daughter before taking his own life.
