In the early hours of a Wednesday morning in Akron, Ohio, a fatal encounter unfolded on the entrance ramp from East Tallmadge Avenue to Route 8 South, leaving 17-year-old Honore Sommerville dead from a gunshot wound. The incident, which occurred around 12:21 a.m. on March 11, 2026, began as a road rage altercation between two vehicles.
Authorities reported that the vehicle carrying Sommerville and his 15-year-old brother had been driving aggressively and tailgating a 28-year-old man, who
was working as a DoorDash driver and was accompanied by his girlfriend. The delivery driver told police he pulled over to let the other vehicle pass, at which point shots were fired from the passing car, shattering his windshield. In response, the delivery driver, who was legally armed, returned fire.
Tragically, Honore Sommerville, who was in the vehicle from which the initial shots were allegedly fired, was struck by the return fire. He was transported to Akron Children's Hospital in critical condition and later died from his injuries.
Following the incident, the 15-year-old brother of the victim was taken into custody. He reportedly admitted to detectives that he was the one who fired at the other vehicle. The younger brother also admitted to disposing of the firearm and to the fact that the vehicle they were in had been stolen. He has been charged with felonious assault, tampering with evidence, and theft of a motor vehicle. The 28-year-old delivery driver was cooperating with the investigation and, at the time of the initial reports, had not been charged.
