Katrina Mcveigh, a 27-year-old mother of three, was last seen on June 17, 1992, in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. At the time of her disappearance, she was facing a period of significant personal difficulty. She had recently left an abusive marriage and was not in custody of her children. Mcveigh was reportedly involved with drugs and prostitution, and had been staying with a friend at an apartment on Second Avenue after a period of homelessness that followed her leaving a shelter for battered
women. The shelter had asked her to leave after her estranged husband, Richard McVeigh, discovered her location and made threats.
On the day she vanished, Katrina Mcveigh was seen getting into a car near Front and Lincoln Street in Woonsocket. Her family did not hear from her again. Although she was making plans to attend her brother's wedding and had even purchased a new dress, she never arrived. It wasn't until several weeks after she was last seen that her family officially reported her missing on June 17, 1992. In the weeks following her disappearance, her mother received anonymous and distressing phone calls, with one caller stating, "You will never find her."
Foul play is strongly suspected in Mcveigh's disappearance, and investigators believe she is deceased. Her family firmly believes she was murdered by someone close to her. They suspect her remains may have been buried along the banks of the Blackstone River. This belief was bolstered when her brother, searching the area near Costa Park, found a shirt he believed belonged to his sister. Despite searches of the riverbank, including some with cadaver dogs, her body has never been found. Her estranged husband, Richard McVeigh, who had a history of domestic abuse against her, was considered a person of interest but was never charged in connection with her disappearance and has since passed away. The Woonsocket Police Department continues to classify Katrina Mcveigh's case as an unsolved, active cold case.
