In the city of McComb, Mississippi, a weekend afternoon was shattered by an act of violence that claimed the life of a young boy and marked the city's first homicide of 2026. On Sunday, February 15, 2026, 14-year-old Ke’Jaylen Cook was fatally shot at the intersection of South Chestnut Street and Avenue B in East McComb. The incident occurred around 1:45 p.m., at which time police discovered Cook lying in the street with a single gunshot wound to his chest.
He was rushed to Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center, but tragically succumbed to his injuries.

The McComb School District issued a statement expressing their heartbreak and solidarity with the family and all those impacted by the tragedy.
