A dispute over loud music at an Orlando, Florida apartment complex on January 21, 2026, tragically ended the life of 38-year-old Arnold Rapatalo. What began as a complaint about noise escalated into a fatal confrontation with his neighbor.
That Wednesday, Michael Thrasher, 32, confronted Rapatalo about the volume of the music coming from his apartment.
Surveillance footage captured Thrasher's escalating anger, showing him kicking and banging on Rapatalo's door in an attempt to force his way inside. When Rapatalo opened the door, a verbal argument erupted between the two men.
The altercation then spilled outside the apartment, where the verbal dispute turned physical. At some point during the struggle, Thrasher reportedly backed away from Rapatalo and shot him in the chest. A neighbor described hearing a loud noise, like a shotgun blast. Arnold Rapatalo succumbed to his injuries.
A week after the fatal shooting, Michael Thrasher was arrested. He now faces serious charges, including first-degree murder while engaged in a burglary and armed burglary of an occupied dwelling with battery.
