In a quiet home in Ethel, Missouri, a simmering dispute on the evening of January 23, 2026, tragically escalated, claiming the life of 51-year-old Lawrence Jackson. The night began with an argument between Jackson and Melinda D. Grigsby, a 39-year-old woman, reportedly over the content on his cell phone.
The disagreement, which started while Grigsby was preparing dinner, quickly turned physical. Authorities state that Grigsby struck Jackson in the face with a spatula.
The altercation continued, with Jackson allegedly putting Grigsby in a headlock before a juvenile present at the scene intervened. Following this, the verbal argument persisted.
The conflict reached a fatal climax when Grigsby went into the master bedroom, retrieved a firearm from her purse, and loaded it. When Jackson entered the bedroom to continue the confrontation, Grigsby allegedly fired a single shot, striking him in the chest.
Macon County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the residence around 5:45 p.m. Upon their arrival, they discovered Lawrence Jackson deceased from the gunshot wound.
Following an investigation into the shooting, Melinda D. Grigsby was arrested and has since been charged with First-Degree Murder and Armed Criminal Action. She is currently being held in the Macon County Jail without bond.
