In the quiet town of Macon, Missouri, a tragic event unfolded on the evening of January 6, 2017, ending the life of 40-year-old Scott Speichinger of Meadville. Speichinger, a male, was fatally shot as he was leaving a residence in Macon. The incident, which occurred shortly before 10 p.m., was the result of a domestic dispute that escalated into a murder-suicide.
The perpetrator was identified as 38-year-old Jared McKinney of Cairo.
McKinney had gone to the home in search of his estranged wife. It was there that he encountered Speichinger and shot him. Following the shooting of Speichinger, McKinney attempted to force his way into the house. The homeowner, who was inside, instructed another occupant to call 911 and then retreated to a safer location within the home. McKinney then took his own life at the scene.
Authorities confirmed that both Scott Speichinger and Jared McKinney died at the scene. No arrests were made due to the death of the suspect. The incident left the community in shock and mourning the sudden and violent loss of Scott Speichinger.
